THE INFLATABLE GASTRIC BAND

Although this device has been used widely in Europe, experience is limited in this country. A silicon band is placed around the stomach and is functionally the same as the stomach stapling or vertical-banded gastroplasty procedure. This procedure differs in that the band is adjustable and can be placed laparoscopically. Although experience is limited, we are hopeful this procedure will be a viable alternative to the gastric bypass.
